Whether you’re a homeschool mama or your kids are going back to a brick-and-mortar school, you’re likely gearing up for another action-packed school year. There is much to pray about.

There have been some encouraging conversations taking place across the U.S. about faith, religious expression, and the importance of understanding the Bible’s influence on American history and literature. Students are permitted to pray personally at school, speak about their faith, and participate in voluntary religious activities as long as the school itself is not directing or pressuring them to pray. This is wonderful news and a step in the right direction for Christian students.

Some states are also reconsidering how the Bible and Christianity are represented in public school lessons. Texas recently approved a future required reading list that includes Bible stories, while Utah has passed legislation involving the study of selected Bible passages within social studies instruction. These developments are also being debated and challenged, reminding us to pray for wisdom, fairness, truth, and respect for every family represented in our schools.

As Christian parents, our hope is not simply that our children will hear Christian words at school. We want them to know Christ personally, recognize truth, treat others with love, and remain faithful when they encounter people whose beliefs differ from their own.

This school year, let us pray:

That our children will remember they are never separated from God’s presence.
That they will have the courage to pray quietly, live out their faith kindly, and ask honest questions.
That teachers, aides, counselors, bus drivers, administrators, and support staff will receive wisdom, patience, protection, and encouragement.
That students who feel anxious, lonely, unsafe, bullied, or overwhelmed will be noticed and helped.
That children who are behind academically or frequently absent will receive patient and effective support.
That students with disabilities will have access to qualified staff, appropriate services, and classrooms where they are understood and included.

That parents and schools will use wisdom as artificial intelligence and other new technologies become more common in education.
That our children’s privacy, innocence, attention, creativity, and ability to think critically will be protected.
That school leaders will make decisions based on truth, responsibility, and the genuine well-being of students rather than political pressure from either direction.
That Christian students will be known not merely for what they oppose, but for their honesty, compassion, humility, courage, and love.

The beginning of a school year can bring excitement and opportunity, but it may also bring uncertainty. We cannot be beside our children during every lesson, conversation, lunch period, or difficult moment.

But God can.

As we send them back to school, we can place them in His care, remain involved in their education, listen closely when they speak, and trust God to give us wisdom for every concern that arises.

Lord, please go before our children as they return to school.

Protect their minds, bodies, hearts, and relationships.

Thank you for going ahead of them and being with them.

Give them wisdom to recognize what is true, courage to make right choices, and kindness toward those around them.

Strengthen the people who teach, guide, transport, feed, counsel, and care for them.

Bring help to students who are struggling, protection to those who feel unsafe, and encouragement to those who feel alone.

Help us remain prayerful, attentive, and involved without being ruled by fear.

Show us when to speak, when to listen, when to ask questions, and when to trust You with what we cannot control.

May our children carry the light of Christ with humility and love wherever they go. Amen.

As another school year begins, let’s remember that true wisdom does not begin with headlines, policies, or popular opinion. It begins with God.

May we continue to pray for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and everyone making decisions that affect our schools. May God give us discernment to recognize what is true, courage to stand for what is right, and grace in the way we speak and respond. We may not know everything this school year will bring, but we can trust the One who does. As we stay informed, let us also stay prayerful—asking God to guide our families, protect our children, and help each of us walk wisely in the days ahead.

We can be families who have stable lives and homes to invite others into and offer good, wholesome fun and opportunities to build critical thinking skills and life skills.

We can be a voice of reason in someone’s life, and point them toward Christ--our wisest Counselor.
